The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has sanctioned ₹42.6 crore to address persistent waterlogging and drainage problems along NH 66 in Alappuzha and Kollam districts. The initiative is aimed at improving drainage systems along the highway and reducing the impact of heavy monsoon rainfall on road users.
In Alappuzha, where several stretches of the highway pass through low-lying and water-sensitive areas, effective drainage is particularly important during the monsoon. The proposed works are expected to improve the movement of vehicles, reduce water accumulation on the highway and strengthen the road infrastructure against recurring heavy rainfall.
The project is also significant for residents, commuters, businesses and emergency services that depend on NH 66 as a major transportation corridor through the district.
