Land acquisition activities for the proposed railway doubling between Thuravoor and Ambalappuzha are set to move forward alongside tender-related procedures. The railway doubling programme is being implemented in phases covering sections including Ambalappuzha–Alappuzha, Alappuzha–Mararikulam and Mararikulam–Thuravoor.
The Ambalappuzha–Thuravoor section has remained an important missing link in the coastal railway corridor, where other sections already have double tracks. Completion of the doubling project is expected to improve railway capacity through the Alappuzha region and create opportunities for additional train services.
The project is also expected to benefit daily commuters, students, workers and long-distance passengers by improving railway connectivity and reducing operational constraints along the busy coastal route.
